There's no place like home

Warning--picture overload!

I was lucky enough to spend several days back home a few weeks ago.  We are never hurting for things to do when we're with Nana and Tam-Tam.  See for yourself!

I really wanted a picture of the kids and me with the mountains in the background.  They did not feel the same way I did.
Ian is so good to swim around with Piper at the lake!
Coloring with Tam-Tam

Mamaw was a good sport to push Piper around in the little car.

Tam-Tam can play soccer AND hold a squirmy Graham!

Sizing each other up
These girls are obsessed with Lightning McQueen.  They each grabbed one of Piper's new books and sat down together.  Too cute!
Wouldn't you like to know what they are thinking?

Lyndie was a little unsure of her costume at first.
That's better!

Happy birthday to Nana!
Mind the spit.
Ian had been reading Lightning McQueen  books to the girls, and Graham crawled over to join them.  What a precious scene!
I love Tisha in the mirror, trying to get everyone to smile.

Nana took Piper on her very first ride on the tube!  She loved it!

Got Guts? 5K--Mom's first race!

On August 4th, Mom, Tammie, and I joined up to run/walk the Got Guts? 5K benefiting the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.  This cause is near and dear to my heart since Josh suffers from a severe case of Ulcerative Colitis.  We packed the kids in a borrowed double jogging stroller (thanks,  Aunt Tisha!) and took off!

Mom even got a medal for placing third in her age group!

Eight month comparison pictures

What I want to remember: Graham at 8 months

Graham's eighth month was all about MOBILITY.  He learned to army crawl everywhere, move to a sitting position from a crawl, and pull up.  This meant that he got his first bumps and bruises, most of which were on his head and face.  Poor little guy!

As I wrote in my last post, all this mobility (coupled with a bad cold) made for some rough nights.  As soon as I would lay him down in the bed, Graham would pop his head up, crawl to the end of his crib, and stand up.  Then he'd fall down and get even more mad that he already was.  And of course, he was trying to do all this with a pacifier in his mouth and another in his hand which would, of course, fall out of his crib.  It was a ROUGH couple of weeks in the sleep department, but we're back on track now (sleeping 10 hours at a time, nursing, then back to sleep for another hour or two).  And there may or may not be about 6 pacis in his bed at all times :-).  When he naps well, it's great (1.5-2 hours).  But when he naps poorly, it's very bad (30-45 minutes--not enough!).  He takes three naps a day.

Speaking of nursing, we are finally down to nursing only four or five times a day (every 3.5-4 hours).  This is heavenly.  We can get out and about between naps and feedings with enough time to not worry about finding a spot to nurse.  For the record, I don't mind nursing in public with my nursing cover, but it's difficult to keep tabs on Piper while I'm nursing.  But if Graham is losing any steam nursing, it's because the boy loves his real food.  I can't believe the amount of food he can eat.  I feel like all I do is feed him!  He has fruit and baby cereal in the morning, another fruit and sometimes a grain for lunch, and two veggies and a meat at dinnertime.  If we sit him in his high chair, he expects to eat RIGHT NOW and will let us know that we are not moving fast enough to get food in his mouth.  This month I successfully reintroduced fish, shellfish, peanuts, and tree nuts back into my diet with no reaction in Graham.  We see the GI at Vandy early next month to determine our next dietary steps.

So proud of himself!
Even with all this eating, he's still a little guy.  I'm guessing he weighs around 17.5 pounds, but I won't know for sure until we go to the doctor for his 9 month appointment in a few weeks. He wears a size three diaper and 6-9 month clothes.  Graham definitely burns lots of calories during all his explorations. He still only has two teeth.

Did I make that mess?
I love this stage of play.  Everything is new, and everything is now within reach (including the dog dishes, which are unfortunately one of his favorite things to play with!).  Graham is not much of a shaker, but he loves to bang his toys around.  He still puts everything in his mouth.

musician in the making

Piper is still one of his favorite people, but she's beginning to get a little rough with him.  She's not very keen on the fact that he can get into her toys and mess up her projects now.

He crawled under this table to watch the thunderstorm.
I keep forgetting to mention how much this boy loves me :-).  He likes to have me in his sights all the time.  If I leave the room, he will do everything in his power to follow me.  Sometimes this hurts Josh's feelings.  Graham also gives the best kisses; a little slobber never hurt anyone!

Sweet, sweet boy!

Practice makes perfect

Graham has been working hard on a few new skills as of late (and by hard I mean so hard there's no time to eat or sleep).  Learning to pull up caused a MAJOR disturbance in his sleep over the past two weeks.
Now he can reach all the noisy buttons :-(
The upstairs is the perfect level.
Maybe if I grab this with my teeth...
How can you expect me to sleep in this bed when I can stand here and scream at you for as long as I want???
