Our celebration began with Piper's preschool program. Her class performed "Jingle Bells" (just like last year). Unlike last year, however, Piper actually participated. She was anxious about finding us in the crowd of people, but once she spotted us she was good to shake and sing.
We celebrated Christmas Eve at a low-income apartment complex with our church family, holding a service with the tenants there. It was such a blessing to share the holiday with those who don't have the financial means to be totally consumed with the material aspects that cloud the true meaning of Christmas. Keeping track of Graham and Piper kept Josh and me more than busy, so we don't have any pictures to share. But it was a night we won't forget.
Back at home, we attempted to get pictures of the kids in their Christmas pjs before they went to bed. That didn't work out so well.
Finally, Santa went to work!
Christmas morning, like the rest of the celebrations to come, was a blur of excitement, packaging, and noise. My pictures are terrible, but they correctly portray the chaos that is Christmas with two toddlers.
Later Christmas morning, we sang "Happy Birthday" to Baby Jesus and blew out a candle in his honor.
And speaking of Baby Jesus, He is still is a regular fixture around here. He can often be found swaddled up in his "manger".
We packed up a few of our new presents and a light lunch and hit the road for East Tennessee. There we had celebrations with Tam-Tam, Nana and Gramps, Pop-pop, Mamaw, Pap, and Nona and Papaw.
Christmas truly is magical for/with children. I know we just laid the groundwork, but it was awesome to talk to Piper about Jesus coming to earth so He could save us from our sins. She was pretty much obsessed with the Nativity (we still have one out!) and frequently dresses up like Mary to take care of her baby Jesus (and that also means one of us has to be Joseph--usually with towels on our head).
Until next year...
