Piper is twenty months old! Josh and I love watching her grow up, temper tantrums and all. She is talking more and more and remembers EVERYTHING. I am taking extra care and time with her lately as it has finally hit me that our days of "just her" are rapidly coming to a close.
Here are a few highlights of Piper at 20 months:
- NO! is the most common word at our house. I bet Piper says it 200 times a day. Most of the time the singular word is followed by the phrase, "No, I said NO!"
- Temper tantrums occur on a weekly (sometimes daily) occasion. Her first public one took place in the parking lot of pre-school. I figure that's as good a place as any as none of the people around (all mommies and daddies) would judge. Piper will also pretend to throw a tantrum by fake crying and laying down on the floor. She's quite the drama queen.
- She loves her mama and "Da-ee" very much and prefers to be with us all the time instead of playing by herself. Ever.
- She is becoming aware of her pottying functions. I have always said "Shoo-ey!" to her when changing her poopy diapers. A few weeks ago, she started telling me that she had gone "shoo-ey", and several times this week she has told me BEFORE she has gone. And today she led me immediately to her changing table because she wanted "no, no shoo-ey." I think a potty chair is in our very near future.
- While most of Piper's words are variants of the actual words (for example, gogs for dogs and ma for milk), she has made up a word for coloring/crayons that sounds like "gai-ee." This word sounds nothing like the idea she's trying to express, and it took Josh and I a while to figure out what she wanted, but she uses it very consistently when she wants to color.
- As you can see from the pictures below, her favorite pasttime is still throwing balls. This month, however, she learned to kick the ball around, too. I love watching her do this!
- She's (very slowly) cutting her canines. One is through the gums, and the others are not far behind. I'm happy that her smile is close to being without gaps.
- Piper still loves to eat. When she's hungry, she tells us, "I want some mmmmmmmmm."
- She no longer uses the sign for hungry but still signs for all done and please.
- She attempts to count to three before throwing her ball. She says, "two, two, tee!" It's precious. Even cuter is when she tries to count on her fingers. I'll have to get this on video sometime soon.
- I think she's a bit of a bully at school. Learning to share is a developmental stage that most children don't reach until closer to age three (so I've read), and this is a problem for Piper. She's very vocal about not wanting to share with her classmates. I hope her teachers can keep her under control!
This picture was taken at Centennial Park (where the Parthenon replica sits) at a free concert. With Piper is her friend Baker, and his dad is the guitarist on the left side of the stage.
I can't get the following videos spaced correctly. Anyway, the first is evidence of what happens when Piper refuses to take a nap at school. To say she was overstimulated by bedtime is an understatement. The second video is one Josh took of Piper riding the concrete Scottie dog we have on our outside landing. Anything resembling a riding toy (step-stools, the mop, etc) Piper tries to ride. It's quite comical.
